SDIR SCIENTIFIC DAYS

The third “SDIR Scientific Day” meeting was successfully held at the University of Novi Sad on Thursday, April 25, 2024, in a hybrid format. The Director of the Institute for Pulmonary Diseases of Vojvodina, professor Ilija Andrijević and professor Nebojša Pavlović and asst. Dr Vanessa Sekeruš greeted the guests on behalf of the local meeting organizers.

The meeting started with the opening of the SDIR Annual Assembly, followed by a plenary lecture by Professor Antoni Castells from Hospital Clínic Barcelona and University of Barcelona, Spain:

Colorectal cancer screening: great opportunities and new challenges

SDIR Members had the opportunity to hear how the colon cancer screening program is organized in Barcelona and during the discussion they received useful advice on all important aspects of this program.

The meeting continued by acknowledging the quorum for the start of the Annual Assembly, during which the activities and initiatives of SDIR in the previous year were presented. Financial reports were adopted, and future plans announced. The president of this year’s Committee for the best scientific publication, Dr. Ljubica Harhaji-Trajković presented the awards to colleagues, Marija Ostojić, from the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia and DrSofija Jovanović-Stojanov, from the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković”, University of Belgrade. Dr. Jovanović-Stojanov gave a lecture during which she presented the results from the award-winning publication:

A scientific cooperation agreement was signed between the Association of Bronchologists of Serbia, represented by Ass. Prof. Goran Stojanovićfrom the Institute for Pulmonary Diseases of Vojvodina and SDIR. The Annual Assembly was closed with the announcement of the regional SDIR-HDIR-MOKAD congress planned for autumn 2025, as well as an invitation to SDIR members to apply for an open call for the new SDIR Board of Directors in December 2025.
Lecturers from the University of Novi Sad continued to present their research capacities, scientific results and future plans. The members of the SDIR Board of Directors got acquainted with the personnel and infrastructural resources for cancer research at the University of Novi Sad and discussed the possibilities for establishing new collaborations with the aim of jointly applying for new scientific projects.
